I was deeply privileged to be awarded a Doctor of Philosophy by Charles Darwin University recently, a truly unique institution with a strong First Nations culture and community at its heart.
I am especially grateful to my supervisor, Dr. Steven Farram, whose guidance and mentorship were instrumental in helping me navigate one of the most challenging and rewarding journeys of my life.
My research uncovered the origin story of the State of South Australia, revealing the profound influence of Freemasonry on its foundations.
This milestone is not just a personal achievement, but also a reminder of the importance of perseverance, wisdom shared by others, and the value of education in shaping our paths for the common good.
Over the years I have been privileged to be part of many institutions, each shaping me in different ways. Yet for this graduation, I chose to wear the tie of the Naval, Military & Air Force Club of South Australia, an institution I deeply value and first joined in 2011.
Their motto, “Pro Aris et Focis”, for hearth and home, speaks powerfully to me. It reflects values of loyalty, tradition, inclusion and the responsibilities we share to protect what we hold dear.
I am also thankful to my wife Jerushah for her support, and my large extended family, including daughters Saffron and Lya Klovekorn who could join me in Darwin. I am also thankful of my lodge, The Earl of Zetland Lodge 231, for their support. I joined Freemasonry in 1997 and am now very proud to present a Doctorate in its field.
