Meeting with Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg’s Adelaide concert in 2023, I had the surreal chance to meet the Doggfather himself. For me, the moment carried more layers than just music. I was baptised in Nigeria, and as a child I often sat by Badagri Beach, listening to the fishermen sing their ancient chants as they pulled in their nets. Those sounds shaped my sense of rhythm long before I knew what hip-hop was.

Snoop’s own connection with Nigeria runs deep — from his collaboration with D’banj on Mr Endowed to his more recent love for Nigerian artists. Standing with him that night, it felt like a circle had quietly closed: the waves of Badagri met the bass of Long Beach.

To crown it all, Snoop gave me his special chain — a gift I treasure, though I’ve yet to find the right occasion bold enough to wear it.
